Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission - Wednesday, May 22, 2019

The Natural Areas Association (NAA), the national professional membership organization for natural areas professionals, held a two-day Regional Workshop in central Arkansas May 7 and 8. Led by ANHC’s Chief of Research, Theo Witsell, 60 participants from eight states visited several exemplary natural areas, including Downs Prairie Natural Area and Middle Fork Barrens Natural Area. They also attended presentations to learn about managing land for pollinators and Arkansas’s efforts to develop native seed resources.

The workshop was co-sponsored by the NAA, ANHC, and the U.S. Forest Service. Other partners included Audubon Arkansas, Barnhill Farms, Central Arkansas Water, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Quail Forever, Roundstone Native Seed, and the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation.
