Hunt held at Warren Prairie to honor disabled veterans

Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission - Wednesday, January 30, 2019

This past November, the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission (ANHC), Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC), National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) state chapter, and Freedom Defenders Outdoors (FDO) organized and hosted a two-day Disabled Veteran’s Hunt at Warren Prairie Natural Area.

Created as a special thank you to our veterans, this was the second year that the hunt was held at Warren Prairie. The first hunt got its start with the ANHC’s Director (then Chief of Research) Bill Holimon and AGFC Regional Biologist, Mark Hooks. They joined forces with Terry Thompson, president of the Arkansas NWTF chapter to host the event. Jarred Cartwright with FDO recruited and selected veterans to participate.

Despite forecasts for heavy rain and thunderstorms in the area, four veterans participated in this year’s hunt. All participating partners were honored to help disabled veterans reconnect with nature and the fellowship of the two-day event was a tremendous success.
