Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission - Thursday, May 25, 2017

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Arkansas Field Office partnered with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) and the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission (ANHC) to sponsor the 8th Annual Arkansas Endangered Species Art Contest. This year, the contest had over 600 entries from 36 schools across the state, representing 37 of Arkansas’s listed species.

In celebration of Endangered Species Day earlier this month (May 19), the winning artwork will be on display at the AGFC Witt Stephens Jr. Central Arkansas Nature Center in Little Rock through June 1, 2017. Winning artwork can be viewed online as well at https://www.fws.gov/arkansas-es/esdaywinners2017.html .

Entries were judged based on concept, composition, color, and expression by representatives from the three sponsoring agencies, as well as a special guest judge, Kitty Harvill. Harvill is a local artist whose work focuses on nature and conservation around the world.
