2018 Arkansas Endangered Species Day Art Contest Winners Announced

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Arkansas Field Office partnered with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC), and the ANHC to sponsor the Ninth Annual Arkansas Endangered Species Day (ESD) Art Contest. This year, the contest had over 500 entries from 42 schools and three home schools throughout the state, representing 37 of Arkansas’s listed species.

The ESD Art Contest provides students an opportunity to learn about threatened and endangered species in Arkansas and express their knowledge and support of these species through art. Entries were judged based on concept, composition, color, and expression.

Winners in the kindergarten to second grade category are: Miguel Hernandez, DeQueen Primary, first place; Sarisha Mallawarachchi, Northwest Arkansas Classical Academy, second place; and Methan Daniel, DeQueen Primary, third place. In the third to sixth grade category, winners are: Michaelangelo Montez, Arkansas School for the Deaf, first place; Preston Eddings, Creekside Middle School, second place; and Ashadan Perrault, Waldron Elementary School, third place. In the seventh to ninth grade category, winners are: Ryan Bomar, Cabot Freshman Academy, first place; Cassie Jankowski, homeschool, second place; and Chloe Brading, Flippin Middle School, third place. Winners for the 10th to 12th grade category are: Hunter Workman, Monticello High School, first place; Ashley Heath, Wynne High School, second place; and Zoey Brown, Southside High School, third place. Esteban Saavedra, Clinton High School, was the overall winner.
